Bitmap Monogram

The Bitmap Monogram project involved creating a modular typeface using a grid background. For my initial design I utilized several consistent patterns to design the letters, with the leftward vertical lines being 3 grid squares wide, the horizontal being 2, and rightward vertical lines being 1 wide. However, many of the other elements of the letters were inconsistent. When updating the project, I smoothed out some of the edges, as well sticking with a more consistent construction method for the letters, following the underlying grid format. The height and width of the letters was made more consistent.

Original Design

Updated Design

Initially when starting the project, I went for more abstract and conceptual designs before settling with an earlier iteration of the current design.

What Changed?

Horizontal Lines made more consistent

Less random, and more consistent, grid-based arrangement of elements

Smoothed out errors from structure of letterform

More centered and consistent scaling of upper half compared to bottom

Width of vertical and horizontal lines made more consistent

Serif-esque elements add detail more consistent with other letters

Stem was straightened
